The Shipley Estate Tea Rooms
Jean-Etienne Liotard was an Artist of great versatility. Born in Switzerland in 1702, his delicate Pastel drawing of ‘The Chocolate Girl’ is in The Dresden Museum. He also achieved distinction by his Enamels, Copperplate Engravings and Glass Painting. My family approved of my placing a Copy of “The Chocolate Girl” and his “Tea Set” in our Tea Rooms, as we stock a very wide range of Tea’s and Coffee’s, but just one variety of very especial real Hot Chocolate. (Plus an extremely wide range of scrumptious home made cakes). I then supposed that my family would also approve my use of enlargements of two Cigarette Cards from an ancient set which featured all the Worlds Breeds of Dogs. My intention was to place one Breed upon one Loo door & another Breed upon the other Loo door...to indicate in an extremely tasteful manner, what other less discerning people, might describe as...His & Hers! Regrettably the concept was vetoed.
